Economic Impact

Toronto Pearson is situated in the industrial and financial core of Canada. Serving the Greater Toronto Area, Toronto Pearson is the second-busiest North American gateway to Europe and Canada’s primary hub, handling the most Canadian/U.S. traffic on the continent. Domestically, the airport handles more than 30 per cent of Canada’s air traffic.

Whether you are travelling for your best friend’s wedding, attending a business meeting in Tokyo, connecting through Toronto on your third honeymoon or transporting a champion horse to her next race, our job is to get you—and your cargo—where you need to go. Providing excellent facilities, inviting new flight routes, lowering landing fees and working with our stakeholders on new initiatives... all of these are essential to the economy around us.

Jobs

Toronto Pearson directly generates 106,000 full-time jobs, with an additional 80,000 jobs created indirectly and induced into the economy.

The GTAA continually works to empower our employees to be knowledgeable about the Airport and to feel rewarded for sharing ideas. Our aim is to encourage dialogue, openness, teamwork and the sharing of ideas at the GTAA. Ideas from employees through our Your Voice program have been implemented throughout the organization, with significant cost savings (and a feeling of collaboration that is priceless).

We also work to partner with good companies who share our values about helping the local economy and environment.

Tourism

Toronto Pearson holds a significant place in the tourism industry. When travellers arrive at Toronto Pearson, we want them to feel that they have arrived in Toronto, and in Canada. Musicians, dancers, artwork, exhibits and even a dinosaur or two from the Royal Ontario Museum can be found throughout our terminals. We partner with local artists and cultural organizations to show our passengers a glimpse of the events happening in the Greater Toronto Area. We talk regularly with airlines, tourism agencies, and other organizations to make sure our airport promotes the greater community in which we work.
