Board of Directors

The GTAA is a not-for-profit corporation without share capital and is governed by a 15-member board drawn from nominees from the four regional municipalities of Durham, Halton, Peel and York, as well as the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario and the Government of Canada, and from the Greater Toronto Area business and professional community.

The Corporation believes that the cornerstone of good corporate governance is an effective nomination process which identifies candidates with the appropriate skills and experience relevant to the needs of the Corporation. This year, the Corporate Governance and Compensation Committee, which administers the Board recruitment process, has identified the skills and experience resident in the current Board of Directors and the skills and experience required over the next few years as the Corporation pursues its Strategic Plan.

For 2010, the Board has an imminent need for prospective Directors with functional and industry backgrounds in accounting (CFO, corporate finance and/or financial literacy), senior level executive with operating experience/large complex operations with multiple stakeholders, ideally with customer facing both consumer and business-to-business, and corporate law. In addition, with the passage of time, the GTAA will be interested in considering Board members who have expertise in the following industries and/or functions:

  • Aviation/Travel
  • Engineering/Development
  • Environmental
  • Corporate Finance
  • Large-Scale Operations
  • Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Government Relations
  • Labour/Human Resources
  • Urban Planning/Transportation Planning
