Sounds of Caribana come to Toronto Pearson
Date of Release:
2009/07/23
On Thursday, July 23, passengers arriving at Toronto Pearson from around the world were transported by the sounds of the Caribbean, as they were greeted by steel pan drums.
The St. Jamestown Youth Centre Steel Orchestra performed pop, jazz and reggae songs, infused with a distinctive island flavour. As part of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority’s (GTAA) partnership with Scotiabank Caribana, the performance was designed to let visitors know that the festival starts at the airport.
Toby Lennox, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications at the GTAA, comments “Nothing says summer in Toronto like Caribana. We’re proud to support this signature event and to bring a piece of it to the airport. These kids are amazing performers and I think travellers were pleasantly surprised to see a live show in Terminal 1.”
