Simplifying the Road System at Toronto Pearson
Since the closure of Terminal 2 in January of this year, there have been many changes to the landscape of Toronto Pearson. With the terminal closed and in the process of being demolished, the roads and bridges that lead to Terminal 2 were no longer necessary. Over the course of the last four weekends, work was undertaken to remove those bridges and roadways to create a more simplified road system at the airport.

During Saturdays and Sundays in July, various road closures took place in order to safely remove the bridges. The project, with a focus on safety and efficiency, had minimal impact on the travelling public accessing Terminals 1 and 3. Signs were in place directing drivers to alternate routes and both terminals remained open and fully operational during the detours. The last bridge was successfully removed this past weekend bringing the process of the bridge demolitions to its completion. Final roadway removal will take place over the course of the next two months.

“We are constantly working to improve the road system at Toronto Pearson,” said Howard Bohan, Vice President of Operations at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, “making it easier for the travelling public to navigate the airport and to get where they want to go in a timely fashion.”
