March Break at Toronto Pearson

Date of Release: Mar 08, 2007

March Break will once again mean an increase in passengers at Toronto Pearson International Airport. While not the busiest time of the year, the increase in traffic during March Break means that passengers should be aware of airport services, airline regulations and packing restrictions to make their journey as smooth as possible.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) notes that Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th are expected to be the busiest days leading into March Break with a total of 93,000 passengers expected each day, which is an increase of 10% over a typical day.

Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th are expected to be the busy days at the end of March Break with 93,000 passengers expected each day, an increase of 10% over a typical day.

Passengers should contact their airline to confirm their flight status before travelling to the airport. Passengers should also check with their airline for information on baggage allowances and suggested check-in times.

Passengers are also reminded to check with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) at www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca for information on permitted and non-permitted items in carry-on and checked baggage. In general any liquids, gels or aerosols in carry-on baggage must be less than 100 mls and must fit in one clear, resealable plastic bag. These items must be presented at security screening.

Please note that passengers travelling to the United States must have a valid passport or NEXUS card.

At Toronto Pearson, the following services are available to passengers:

Valet Parking – available on the departures level of Terminal 1.

Cell Phone Parking Lot – This short-term parking area provides motorists with a safe area to wait for passengers. The Cell Phone Lot is on Network Drive, just off of the 409. Signs are posted at both terminals and on highway 409. Maximum wait time is 60 minutes, and vehicles must be attended and turned off at all times.

GTAA Reduced Rate Parking Area – located at 6135 Airport Road (across from Terminal 3), parking is available for only $65 per week.

Airport LINK - free train service between the Reduced Rate Parking Area, Terminal 3 and Terminal 1, 24 hours per day. The longest trip on the LINK takes just over three minutes.

Made to Fly – airport restaurants and cafes encourage you to grab a bite for your flight, as many airlines will not offer meal service. All purchases made in the secure areas of the airport can be brought onboard your plane.

Shopping – with the addition of Pier F at Terminal 1 there are now more than 40 shops and over 50 restaurants and bars available across the airport. Toronto Pearson is home to the largest Duty Free store in the country.

Airport Customer Assistance Program (ACAP) - The GTAA provides free wheelchairs and electric vehicles for passengers requiring mobility assistance as they travel throughout the airport. This coordinated service helps people get from their vehicle to their aircraft. For more information call (416) 776-ACAP.

General airport information – information regarding Toronto Pearson is available at www.gtaa.com

The GTAA is the non-share, not-for-profit authority that operates Toronto Pearson. All revenue generated by the GTAA is reinvested back into the airport. In 2006, 31 million passengers travelled through Toronto Pearson, which was voted the Best Global Airport by the Institute of Transport Management.
