Connection Tips
Transiting through Canada Border Services Agency between Connecting FlightsWhen connecting flights at Toronto Pearson, you may be required to transit through Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) or U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Refer to the table below for specific details about your flight.
* Domestic flights are flights within Canada. ** Canada Border Services Agency combines the processes of Canada Customs, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and Canada Food Inspection Services. *** Some International to U.S. connecting flights at Terminal 1 do not require passengers to clear CBSA before clearing U.S. CBP inspection. NEXUS is a partnership program between CBSA and U.S. CBP that allows members to clear the border faster in both countries when travelling between the United States and Canada. CANPASS is a CBSA program that allows members to clear the border faster when travelling into Canadian airports. For more information about the Customs process, select Arriving or Departing flights, or review the CBSA website. Baggage Claim and Recheck On some connections, baggage must be claimed, processed through CBSA, and then rechecked at the respective check-in counter or at the ongoing/connection desk. All passengers connecting to U.S. flights will be required to claim their baggage. For other connections, check with your air carrier. Be sure to pack all liquid and gel items—including duty free over 100 ml—in your hold baggage prior to checking in for your connecting flight. You must pack these items in your hold baggage either at the check-in counter or prior to placing your baggage on the connection baggage belt. Declaration of Goods For information regarding the declaration of goods between connecting flights, click here. Connecting between Terminals GTAA's LINK Train provides quick transit between terminals for passengers connecting to other flights. In fact, it takes less than two minutes to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3. The service is free, and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Baggage Storage Baggage storage is available in both terminals to help make your connections a little less cumbersome. Entertainment between Flights Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 have a variety of shops, restaurants, and services to entertain you between flights. Click here to view maps of the terminals to see where they are located. Toronto Pearson also has an extensive art program throughout Terminal 1 for you to discover. Remember to return to the airport with sufficient time to check in and clear security before your flight. Check with your air carrier before leaving the airport to confirm the recommended return time.
